Ms. Jansen graduated from Hunter College of the City University of New York in 1991 with an undergraduate degree in Human Communications. Beginning in 1983 and while attending college as a night student, she worked full-time in the Law Department of the National Broadcasting Company in Manhattan. In 1992, she received a Paralegal Certificate in Business Organizations from the New York University Adult Education Program and continued employment with NBC until 1995. As a natural progression and evincing her strong commitment to education, with two young children at home, in September 1996, Ms. Jansen enrolled in the evening program at Pace University School of Law. She graduated in January 2000 and was admitted to the New York State Bar in June 2000. During her last year of law school, Ms. Jansen worked at the Pace Women’s Justice Center, first as a paralegal and then as a Staff Attorney. While at the Center, she helped to start Project Deter, a 24/7 program for victims of domestic violence. She was also instrumental in launching the Family Court Legal Assistance Program. The model for the FCLAP, which provides a one-stop service network for victims of domestic violence (from petitioning for custody, to obtaining child support orders, to trying Family Offenses to gain orders of protections), has been widely imitated and is still operating today in both the White Plains and Yonkers Family Court.

In August 2001, Ms. Jansen joined the Westchester County Attorney’s Office in their Family Court Bureau where she remained for the next five years. As an Assistant County Attorney, Ms. Jansen prosecuted hundreds of juvenile delinquency cases and honed her trial skills. She also prosecuted Article 10 Abuse and Neglect cases on behalf of the County, including Article 10 removals sexual abuse, Termination of Parental Rights matters, and expungement/fair hearings. Ms. Jansen now utilizes those prosecutorial skills to gain successful results for her clients.

Ms. Jansen left the County’s Attorney’s Office in August of 2006 to enter private practice. While at the firm of Farber, Pappalardo & Carbonari in White Plains, Ms. Jansen’s work focused on all aspects of Family Law including high net-worth divorce cases, business valuations, enhanced earning capacity, custody, child support, and maintenance, as well as grandparent visitation, relocation, and parental alienation.

Ms. Jansen helped to author the recent Court of Appeals case, In Re: Afton C, which case was widely published and continues to tackle difficult issues of law in appellate court practice. Ms. Jansen is skilled at handling a large and multi-faceted caseload. Now in solo practice, Ms. Jansen continues work with a concentration in all aspects of Family Law, misdemeanor criminal law, and appellate court practice. She is a member of the Attorneys for Children Panel of the Appellate Division of the State of New York, 2nd Department where she regularly represents children in Family and Supreme Court matters. As well as a member of the assigned counsel panel (18B), which panel regularly assigns her to represent adult respondents in many aspects of Family Court litigation. Ms. Jansen is a member in good standing of the New York Bar Association.
